SALLY’S DESIGN JOURNEY

Sally started her design experience at Parson’s School of Design in New York City, but it was her time at a private art studio studying with a renowned sculptor and artist that taught her how to be sensitive to the forms that surround her.
Her design style emphasizes looking at the space as a whole. As Sally explains, “You can have a lot of great things in a room, but if everything is competing to be the star of the show, nothing works. Even in a symphony, you have to wait for the oboe to reveal itself at the right time.”
Her deep intuition for color and texture, and an understanding of space as intrinsic to a composition guide and inform her as to how each element should be placed. The intention is for each view to create a moment of experience.
Sally has also nurtured a love of Japanese aesthetics - especially gardens – since childhood. Through travels in Japan, studying many temple and home gardens, years of intensive study of the symbolism within rock landscapes, and 20 years of Zen practice, she has a grasp of how a garden can sidestep the concept of “arrangement” and instead become a living work of art.
Sally’s biggest motivation is to help her clients: “Embarking on a renovation or new build can be overwhelming. Sometimes people have an inkling of what they want but don’t know how to express it, or how to even imagine it. Being able to put their ideas, even if they are small, into a beautiful plan is most fulfilling.”
“A truly timeless space will always bring you peace.”
